Nancy Lord started Asana Consulting in 2014. By then, Nancy had 20+ years of experience in communications, marketing, community engagement, business development and PR for public health and health care organizations, start-ups, nonprofits, and creative agencies. She learned first-hand that social impact businesses and organizations struggled to find marketing partners who truly understood their unique needs and embraced their values. Nancy also knew all too well the high negative costs of not having an aligned and experienced communications and marketing partner on a brand’s team.
When Nancy found herself at an unexpected career crossroads, opted to lean into her lifelong entrepreneurial spirit (which dated back to her first business venture, launched from her low-rider Big Wheel at age 4). Everything she had learned in her career and education to date–from communications and marketing, branding, social and behavioral health, social innovation, entrepreneurship and business, strengths-based leadership and teams, design thinking, and the power of stories to change herts and minds–became Asana Consulting.
From then until now, Asana Consulting’s mission has been to connect social impact brands, businesses, leaders, and innovators to the power of communications by uplifting their stories, voices, and missions. Our vision is to expand and deepen social and financial equity, health, and prosperity for people and communities–especially those that are systemically disconnected from such opportunities– by activating the power of social impact storytelling.
Since then, Asana Consulting has worked on hundreds of projects with a talented and inspiring community of clients and collaborators. Every day we have the privilege of working alongside people who believe in the transformative power of stories, value excellence in communications and marketing, uphold shared values, and operate from a mutual and unwavering commitment to social equity and justice.
The principles that guide asana include alignment, flexibility, and intention. The practice of asana benefits people on and off the mat: a steady and clear sense of purpose; greater mind-body awareness, connection, balance, and flow; and a higher level of internal fortitude and adaptability in the face of the myriad changes and challenges that come with life.
Nancy pursued training as a certified yoga teacher for children, and then adults. That’s when she began to see connections between the principles and practice of asana and her approach to communications and marketing. The principles and practices that Nancy learned as a yoga practitioner and teacher led to what became Asana Consulting, and are intentionally designed into our business practices, services, and brand experience.
Our clients report new levels of brand harmony, communications flow, messaging clarity, multichannel integration, and storytelling confidence after working with us. They learn how to use their voice to authentically and effectively tell their brands’ stories, and gain a higher capacity for steadiness, creativity, and resilience in the face of the challenges and conditions. Asana Consulting is company of one business. That means we use freelancers for in-house financial and administrative functions, and draw from a robust network of talented and experienced creative and technical professionals to support our client work.
Nancy has been the founder and leader of Asana Consulting since 2014. She is a comms and marketing strategist and storyteller, branding zealot, and writer. Her career has focused on working at the intersection of communications, strategy, and innovation in the name of equity, health, and prosperity.
